AI Disclosure

This disclosure explains when Clairitea uses artificial intelligence ("AI") services from other companies to check what you post, what those companies receive, and how to turn it off. You are asked to agree to it when you turn on AI checks, and we record which version you agreed to.

1AI checks are off unless you turn them on

No text, photo or screenshot you post is sent to an AI provider unless you have turned on AI checks my posts and photos in Settings, Privacy. We check the setting at the moment your content is processed. If you turn it off, nothing you post after that is sent.

2What happens with AI checks off

• Text (posts, questions, comments and replies) is checked by our own automated rules. These rules run on our servers, use no AI provider, and look for things like private information, threats, content about minors, hate, spam and links. They can publish, hold or block a post.
• Photos and screenshots are not checked automatically for content. A person on our team reviews each one before it appears, so it can take longer to go live.
• Choosing not to use AI checks never counts against you.

3What happens with AI checks on

• Photos and screenshots are sent to Amazon Rekognition, an AWS service, which detects nudity, sexual content, violence and other prohibited content, and reads text in images so we can catch private information such as phone numbers. The result helps decide whether an image is published, held for a person, or blocked.
• Text may also be sent to an AI model from Anthropic that scores it for threats, sexual content, references to minors, private information, hate, spam, self-harm and serious accusations. This check is turned on and off for the whole Service by us. While it is off, your text is checked only by our own rules, even if you have turned AI checks on.
• Our own rules always run as well. When an AI check is uncertain or fails, the item is held for a person rather than published.

4What the AI providers receive and keep

• Amazon Web Services receives the photo or screenshot, with location and other metadata already removed, and nothing that identifies you. AWS processes images as our service provider under its service terms. We have opted out of AWS using them to develop or improve its services. [AWS AI-services opt-out: confirm enabled]
• Anthropic receives the text you post, the type of item (for example a post or a comment), the relationship and flag you chose, and the instructions we give its model. It does not receive your name, phone number, account ID or anything else that identifies you. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic may not use this text to train its models. Anthropic keeps API inputs and outputs only for a limited period under its own data retention policies, including for trust and safety.
• Neither provider may use your content for its own purposes, sell it, or show it to anyone else.
• We keep the result of each check, such as the categories and scores, with the item, and delete it on the same schedule as the item (see the Privacy Policy).

5What AI does not do on Clairitea

• AI does not write posts, summaries or anything shown about a person on Clairitea.
• AI does not decide appeals. A person reviews every appeal.
• We do not use AI to identify you or the people in photos, and we do not use face recognition.
• We do not send the content of people who have not turned on AI checks to an AI provider, even when we review a post that mentions them.

If we want to use AI in any other way that involves your content, we will update this disclosure first and ask for your agreement where the law or this disclosure requires it.

6AI features that run only on your iPhone

Some features use Apple's on-device technology. Nothing from them is sent to Clairitea or an AI provider except the result you choose to post:

• Voice notes are turned into text by Apple's on-device speech recognition. The audio is never uploaded.
• Reading text in screenshots for the redaction tool and for searching by a screenshot uses Apple's on-device text recognition.

7How to turn AI checks on or off

Go to Settings, Privacy, and switch AI checks my posts and photos on or off. The change applies from then on. Content that was already checked is not checked again.
